Samantraya FIB UGM's Performance at FKY Art Market 2011

Samantraya group perform saman dance at Vredeburg to enliven the Yogyakarta Arts Festival Art Market (FKY) 2011, Friday (24 / 6). Samantraya is abbreviation from Saman Sastra Budaya containing 20 students from Faculty of Humanities Department of Humanities UGM. 

Saman is shown with a maximum and has invited the admiration of spectators FKY Art Market 2011. Exercise performed by 14 members Samantraya since April 2011 has succeeded in presenting compactness which is the typical appearance of this dance from Aceh. 

Senny Gustini Ayu, the choreographer, explains that Saman relying focus, concentration and ability to hold a sense of stiffness in both legs because we know that during the dance, the dancer is more sitting by cross-legged. "Even should perform lid formation, forward and backward with legs bent," said Senny that also danced with her friends. Senny create a new formation that presents Saman with way lined with a performance of songs and clothes that remain as original. 

Senny explain that Samantraya is autonomous organizations of FIB UGM that practice two modern and traditional dance. Saman is a prime result of the exercise of Samantraya who practice every two times a week. With practice twice a week, is expected to foster cooperation among the dancers, where more dancers then Saman will be more lively at the same time full of risks. "If one dancer is not able to focus and concentration, no wonder the dance is going to fall apart," said Senny. 

Recognized by Senny, initially Samantraya as an exclusive. However, with frequent performances in several other faculties at UGM, the existence of Samantraya started grabbing the attention at once taken into account. 

Currently, Senny be the one of choreographer in Samantraya group. Since high school, she was practicing Saman diligently. When go to university, her cleverness in dancing Saman displayed on campus and got the attention of some friends. "I hope, in Yogyakarta is not only Javanese dance that was growing, but the traditional dance of other regions, "said Senny. (Jogjanews.com / joe)
